How to Write a Press Release: Structure, Examples and Checklist
A good press release makes the news easy to understand. It leads with the announcement, supports it with facts, and removes the sales copy that does not help a reader or journalist.
Start with the actual news
Write one sentence answering: what happened, who is involved, why it matters and when it takes effect. That sentence is your editorial anchor.
Write a specific headline
Name the company or subject and the change. Avoid vague superlatives. A clear headline is easier to scan and easier for publishers to reuse accurately.
Use the first paragraph efficiently
The opening should carry the essential facts. Do not make readers work through company history before discovering what the announcement is.
Add proof and context
Use concrete facts, timelines, product details, research methods or other verifiable context. Attribute quotes to real people and never invent testimonials or endorsements.
Close cleanly
Add a short company boilerplate and a real media contact. Then proof names, dates, URLs, figures and spelling before distribution.
